When the Carolina Hurricanes stepped to the podium with the second overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, there was little debate about who they would select.
After Buffalo chose Rasmus Dahlin first overall, Carolina selected Andrei Svechnikov, a powerful Russian winger who had dominated the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts.
