The return of the QMJHL to Saint-Jérôme
Saint-Jérôme, July 5, 2024 – The City of Saint-Jérôme is proud to announce the return of the Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League after an absence of more than 50 years in the territory. Four exhibition games of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada will be played on August 16, 21 and 23 as well as September 13 at the Rivière-du-Nord regional arena for the greatest pleasure of hockey fans in Saint-Jérôme and the region.
“After more than 50 years of absence, major junior hockey is returning to Saint-Jérôme. A temporary return, certainly, but one that will nevertheless be greatly appreciated by fans. It’s a unique opportunity to see young talents who are knocking on the door of the National League, including Jonathan Fauchon who attended the Philadelphia Flyers camp, as well as Justin Carbonneau, Xavier Villeneuve, Mathéo Norbert and a few players from the region, including Mirabellois Vincent Desjardins,” said Saint-Jérôme Mayor Marc Bourcier.
“We are very happy and proud to be setting up shop in Saint-Jérôme, at the Rivière-du-Nord arena, for our local preparatory games,” said Jean-François Trudeau of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. “Saint-Jérôme is an integral part of our market, and we are delighted to be able to forge a special bond with the people of Saint-Jérôme. I would also like to thank the City of Saint-Jérôme, as well as the Rivière-du-Nord arena, for welcoming us with open arms.”
Tickets and game schedule
The four games will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 16, Wednesday, August 21, Friday, August 23 and finally on Friday, September 13 at the Rivière-du-Nord regional arena. Tickets, at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children, will be on sale online starting August 1 at noon. It will also be possible to purchase 4 tickets at a cost of $25.
“The Régie intermunicipale de l’aréna régional de la Rivière-du-Nord is proud to welcome the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada to its facilities. Having a Quebec major junior team here makes us dig into our memories of the Saint-Jérôme Alouettes era, and who knows, maybe we’ll be able to discover future stars of the National League there? The Régie intermunicipale’s clientele will surely be there and I join the mayors of Saint-Jérôme, Marc Bourcier, and Prévost, Paul Germain, in wishing the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada a pleasant stay with us,” added the chairman of the board of directors of the Régie and mayor of Sainte-Sophie, Guy Lamothe.
