Remembering Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau

The United States Hockey League (USHL) is saddened by the news of Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau and sends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of the hockey-playing family men who passed away too soon.

From their beginnings in Carneys Point Township, New Jersey, Johnny and Matthew played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Omaha Lancers, respectively. They continued their careers at Boston College.

Johnny’s breakout as a creative, diminutive forward for the Fighting Saints represents a fraction of his career. “Johnny Hockey” played 11 NHL seasons for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, earned selections for 7 NHL All-Star Games and left an immeasurable impact on the communities he represented.

Following four years at Boston College, Matthew embarked on a five-year professional career that included stops with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League (AHL).

We join the hockey world in mourning this loss.
