Sicamous Eagles alum Shea Weber (2000-02) has been selected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Players Category as part of the 2024 Class.
Weber starred for his hometown Eagles in 2001-02 and registered 42 points in 47 regular season games then moved onto the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, where he won a Memorial Cup in 2004.
In their release, the Hockey Hall of Fame stated that Weber turned pro with the Nashville Predators in 2006 and was team captain for six seasons. In international play, he won gold with Canada at the Olympics in 2010 and 2014. Overall, Weber is a member of one of hockey’s most select clubs, winning the Western Hockey League twice, a Memorial Cup, World Juniors, World Championships and the Olympics.
“My career obviously it was a great career,” said Weber to sportsnet.ca, who played 11 of his 16 NHL seasons with Nashville and served as captain there from 2010-16. “I wish it could’ve gone longer and something that the body kind of tells you it’s time and unfortunately it was a tough time because mentally I still felt like I could compete and contribute but physically I just had nothing left to give.”
Earlier this year, Weber was selected to join the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame in Penticton, B.C.
