MIKE GALATI / GENERAL MANAGER & HEAD COACH
Mike Galati joined the Markham Royals in 2014 when the team was known as the Hamilton Red Wings before relocation in the Spring of 2015. Since joining the franchise, he has had the dual role of GM and Head Coach. In 2008/2009 season Mike was selected to coach in the “Battle of Ontario” all star game.
Before coaching at the Junior A level, Mike was the Head Coach of the Toronto Red Wings AAA for two seasons and served as a player assistant coach at the pro level in his last two seasons as a player.
Mike is a graduate of the OHL where he played for the Guelph Storm and Owen Sound Platers. After Junior hockey Mike went on to play ten seasons of professional hockey with stops in Germany, Italy, Netherlands and the UK.
Mike now owns and operates Next Level Hockey an on and off ice training facility in Vaughan Ontario. Mike has served as a Mentor Coach for both the Toronto Penguins and Toronto Aeros Hockey Clubs. He is a GTA scout for the London Knights in the OHL and an on ice instructor at PEAC school for elite athletes.
SPENCER HYMAN / ASSISTANT GM & ASSOCIATE COACH & HEAD SCOUT
Spencer enters his 6th season as an Assistant General Manager and Coach in the OJHL. Before Coaching, Spencer played four seasons with the Hamilton Red Wings. After his time in the OJHL, Spencer went to play division one hockey at the University of Michigan. Spencer broke the record for being the youngest coach in the history of the Ontario Hockey Association.
VINCENT BONAIUTO / ASSISTANT COACH
Vincent Bonaiuto joined the OJHL in 2016 as a player for the Orangeville Flyers. After three seasons with the club, he was traded to the Markham Royals in 2019 where he spent his final season as a 20 year old player. During his time at the Junior A level, Vincent was selected to play in 2 All-Star games as well as having a leadership role in 3 of his 4 seasons in the league, including his season with the Royals.
BREANNA KENNING / HEAD THERAPIST & TEAM TRAINER
Breanna joined the Royals organization as their trainer and therapist during the 2021-22 campaign and works hard to keep the players in top shape during the season. Away from the team, Breanna works as a Chiropractor in the Markham area.
OLIVER HYMAN / SKILLS DEVELOPMENT COACH
Oliver is responsible for the development of athletes. A big part of the team’s technical committee, since he has the responsibility to continuously monitor, improve and develop the skills of the players through training.
JEFF VEILLETTE / DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL
Jeff joins the Royals after stints with the St. Michael’s Buzzers, North York Rangers, and Toronto Patriots. As Director of Player Personnel, Jeff is responsible for providing data-driven analysis to the players, coaching staff, and management, from pre-game game preparation to in-game situations and long-term player evaluation. Jeff is also heavily involved in scouting future Royals prospects, along with other facets of hockey and team operations. Outside of the Royals, Jeff works as a sports writer and social media strategist and has over 15 years of experience in sports media.
CLAYTON MCCONNELL / EQUIPMENT MANAGER
Clayton has been involved with the OJHL for more than 13 years. Volunteering with the Aurora Tigers for 2 years before becoming the Assistant Equipment Manager then being promoted to Head Equipment Manger, a position he held for 10 years. While in that position Clayton perfected sharpening skates, took care of the rooms (painting and cleaning), bagging sticks and gear for away games and prepared all the game day food/snacks for the table. In 2022 he was able to take part in the IIHF tournament that took place in Aurora with teams from Sweden and Switzerland. Clayton looks forward to being part of the Markham Royals and being part of a great hockey organization.
BRODY HUGHES / ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGER
Brody started out with the Royals as a volunteer and worked his way to becoming an assistant equipment manager. He conducts himself in a professional manner and represents the Organization and his hometown of Markham with pride. While not with the Royals, Brody spends his time with the Markham Islanders Sledge Hockey Team and dreams of becoming an assistant equipment manager in the NHL one day.
SEAN GILLESPIE / ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGER
Sean has been involved in Junior ‘A’ hockey for nearly 20 years, having spent 10 seasons with the Pickering Panthers, and has been a member of the Markham Royals staff since 2015. Sean, or “Seany” as he’s known, always brings a positive and supporting attitude to the rink, and ensures our players are properly equipped for every game throughout the season.

JODI LANZAROTTA / VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION
Jodi has been involved in hockey marketing, fundraising, and coordinating special events for 30 years. She enjoys meeting Markham residents, fans, schools and businesses in the area as she strives to make a positive impact in the community with the Markham Royals team members.
Jodi brings with her over 35 years of experience in the Marketing and Special events industry both professional and recreational as well as volunteer work with several different communities and has built many successful events over her career.
Over the past 30 years the Lanzarotta family has been billeting hockey players and has coordinated with families and out of town hockey clubs ensuring a safe and positive placement for the players. Jodi has billeted and placed players from as far away as Finland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, Sudbury, British Columbia, and Calgary.

RINO MATTUCCI / DIRECTOR of MEDIA OPERATIONS
Rino joined the Markham Royals Organization in the summer of 2015 and has brought over 10 years of media and broadcasting experience to the club. He has worked in the OJHL since 2010 and also spent 3 years broadcasting for Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly the Ryerson Rams) of the Ontario University Association out of the new Mattamy Athletic Centre doing Men’s and Women’s hockey, basketball, and volleyball. As well Rino spent time as a part-time broadcaster with GryphVision out of the University of Guelph, doing their men’s basketball games. He is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan (Ryerson) University’s RTA School of Media specializing in digital media, sports broadcasting, and live production.
