Caledon Admirals

In 2021, after a year of COVID-driven hiatus, both the Admirals Jr. A Hockey Club (OJHL) and the Bombers Jr. B Hockey Club (GOJHL) moved to Caledon to share a facility with the newly-acquired Caledon Golden Hawks Jr. C Hockey Club of the PJHL.

This move completed the junior hockey development system that the Arsenault Hockey Group (AHG) sought to form for many years.  With teams at all three levels of junior hockey sharing a facility inside the Mayfield Recreation Centre, player development is now possible without players moving to different facilities or cities.

Brampton Admirals

Brampton AdmiralsOn June 18, 2018, team president David Arsenault announced a move.  Citing poor local support and an improved development model by having both his Junior “A” and Junior “B” teams playing in the same arena, he relocated the Orangeville Flyers to Memorial Arena in Brampton and rebranded them the Brampton Admirals.

Orangeville Flyers

On April 14, 2011, ten days after the original Orangeville Flyers were disbanded by the league, the OJHL and the Villanova Knights announced that The Knights were moving to Orangeville under the name the Orangeville Flyers.  They played their home games at the Alder Street Community Center until the end of the 2017-2018 season, when it was announced that the team would relocate again.

Orangeville Crushers

The Orangeville Crushers was a Canadian Junior “A” ice hockey team from Orangeville, Ontario. They played in the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League (MOJCHL), the  Midwestern Junior B Hockey League (MWJHL), and the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL – Junior A).

The team originally launched in the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League, which, after the Crushers’ first season in the league, became the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, the Crushers played in the Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League and won two straight league championships.

In the mid-90’s, the Crushers were accepted into the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League, where they stayed until 2006. Orangeville was accepted to play in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League for the start of the 2006-07 season after a vote by the OPJHL teams resulted in an overwhelming 33-3 vote. The team’s head coach for the beginning of 2006-07 was to be Steve Chelios, brother of former NHLer Chris Chelios, but he was let go in late October. The President of the team, former NHLer Dale Hawerchuk, took over as head coach.

In 2010, the team changed its name to the Orangeville Flyers but, on April 3, 2011, despite three consecutive .500 or more seasons, the franchise ceased operations.

Villanova Knights

In 2007, local businessman David Arsenault (Governor/Owner) along with St. Thomas of Villanova College revived a previously defunct team, bringing it back into the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL) under the banner of Villanova College.

The Villanova Knights were announced officially on May 15, 2007, playing their home games at York University’s Canlan Ice Gardens.

Dukes / Dodgers / Islanders / Rattlers / Thunderbirds

Thornhill Thunderbirds - WikipediaIn 1993, after a year as the Weston Dukes followed by a year as the Weston Dodgers, the team folded and their franchise was moved to Thornhill and became the Thornhill Islanders. In 1997 they were renamed the Thornhill Rattlers until 2004, when they assumed the name Thornhill Thunderbirds.

After playing in multiple leagues for many years, the players of the team started to get let go or traded for cash to any interested team and, in the summer 2006, the team disbanded.

Henry Carr Crusaders

Like the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors and St. Michael’s Buzzers, the Crusaders were a secondary school based Junior hockey team. The team’s affiliation was with the Father Henry Carr Secondary School of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

In 1980, they took their high school team and joined the Metro Junior “B” Hockey League, where they played until 1991, even after the league left the Ontario Hockey Association in 1989. The team was famous for its first undefeated Metro season in 1983 (34-0-2), when they won the All-Ontario Jr. B Championship, the Sutherland Cup. After five rounds of playoffs, what it took to win the Sutherland Cup, the Crusaders had accumulated 54 wins, 2 losses, 2 ties, and 2 OT losses in 60 regulation games.

In 1991, when the Metro league declared itself Junior “A”, they transferred the franchise to the Weston Dukes of the Metro Junior “A” Hockey League (MetJAHL).

Henry Carr still fields a hockey team to this day, but again at the High School Hockey level.

Executive

David Arsenault – Owner / President

David Arsenault

In 2007, David purchased the Thornhill Thunderbirds franchise and operated as the Villanova Knights for 4 years.  In April 2011 the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) Board of Directors approved the Knights’ request for relocation to Orangeville.  The team was based in Orangeville until moving to Brampton and becoming the Brampton Admirals in 2018, where they joined their Junior B affiliate at Memorial Arena, and then becoming the Caledon Admirals in 2021, where the Junior A, B and C teams now all play at Mayfield Arena.

In the fall of 2009, Mr. Arsenault took over the defunct Owen Sound Greys Junior B hockey team and joined the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League (GOJHL) in September of 2010 and based the team in Brampton as the Brampton Bombers. The purpose was to create a vertical affiliation to move players from Junior B to Junior A.

The entire affiliation was completed in May 2010, when Mr. Arsenault purchased the Fergus Devils Junior C team, playing out of the Georgian Bay Mid Ontario Hockey League (GMOHL) until 2016, when circumstances made it necessary to cease operations.

In May 2019, Mr. Arsenault acquired the Caledon Golden Hawks Junior C team of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL), which continued to play at the Caledon East Area until all three junior teams moved to Caledon’s Mayfield Arena in 2021.

Together, the vertical affiliation is complete, allowing for complete movement through the system from Junior C to Junior A. There is no system set up like this in Ontario, which allows our organization to monitor the movement of our players through all 3 junior levels.

Since then, AHG has acquired the Crusaders Sr. Men’s AAA team of the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) league.

David is now also President of the Humberview Huskies A and AA Association of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).

Robin Inscoe – General Manager and Director of Player Personnel

Robin Inscoe

Robin Inscoe re-joined the Arsenault Hockey Group team in August 2019 after taking a few years away from the game.

Inscoe is no stranger to AHG, having been involved at the ground level during the organization’s inception. He has returned to AHG as its Director of Player Personnel, responsible for overseeing the recruiting and development of players within all branches of the organization. In addition he is also the GM of the Bombers Jr. B hockey team.

AHG currently encompasses three different divisions in the Ontario Hockey Association – with teams in the junior A, junior B and junior C classifications, along with the recently acquired AHG Academy, a youth spring/summer program.

Inscoe is familiar with all three junior divisions and has been a General Manager at each, including stints with the Acton Sabres and Woodstock Navy Vets Jr. C, Orangeville Crushers Jr. B and Georgetown Raiders Jr. A, where the team enjoyed a successful run, culminating in Georgetown’s trip to the Royal Bank Cup in Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 2005. He has also worked in an executive capacity with the Brampton Capitals, Villanova Knights, Orangeville Flyers, Owen Sound Greys and Fergus Devils, the latter four as part of the AHG umbrella.

Robin looks forward to working with the young players within the organization to help them realize their dreams and goals. He can be reached at 416-846-1383 or by email at Robin@AHGHockey.com.

Shannon Blakeley – Senior Director of Business Operations

Shannon Blakeley

Shannon has been with AHG since 2013 overseeing game day operations and events for the Brampton Bombers Jr. B Hockey Club and in April 2018, with the move of the Orangeville Flyers to Brampton as the Brampton Admirals Jr. A, she has managed game day and events for both the Jr. B and Jr. A clubs.

With the addition of the Golden Hawks Jr. C Hockey Club to the AHG family, Shannon now oversees business operations for all three teams, with all non-hockey staff reporting to her.

AHG is pleased to have Shannon managing everything at the rink as we strive to become the best franchises in the OJHL, GOJHL and PJHL, the junior hockey leagues of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA).

Matthew Redican – Director of Marketing

Matthew Redican

Matthew has been with the Arsenault Hockey Group (AHG) since 2014, starting with the Brampton Bombers Jr. B Hockey Club, in a marketing and outreach role. His involvement grew over the years as AHG added more teams and programs.

Today, Matthew manages marketing initiatives and contributes toward sponsorship outreach. He manages the website content, consults on technical requirements and assists with special projects.
