Mike Hawes – General Manager/Governor
Mike is entering his 19th season as a member of the Spruce Kings staff. From 2005 to 2007, he filled the role of associate coach, including being on the bench as the team won a silver medal in the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup. Prior to the 2007/2008 season Mike accepted the role of Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel. In April 2011 Mike was promoted to his current position of General Manager and Governor.
Before his tenure with the Spruce Kings, Mike was a WHL scout for six years. His playing days involved moving through the Prince George minor hockey system which led to four years of playing in the WHL (1986-1989) with the Spokane Chiefs, New Westminster Bruins and Tri-City Americans. As a 20 year old, Mike played one season in the BCJHL for the New Westminster Royals and Ladner Penguins.
Mike was born in Montreal, Quebec but has proudly called Prince George home for the past 37 years. He is married to wife Anita and has one son named Riley.
Craig Carter – Assistant General Manager / Director of Player Personnel
Craig Carter is entering his fourth year with the Spruce Kings in 2022-23 Carter is no stranger to the game as he has served as a scout for the Minnesota Wild for two seasons. On top of that, Carter has served as a BCHL scout for over 10 years with teams including the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Coquitlam Express. He also served as a scout for the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL.
Alex Evin – Head Coach
Alex Evin will be entering his seventh season with the Spruce Kings, and his fourth season as the Head Coach. Originally from Castlegar, B.C., Alex played 198 regular season games over five seasons in the BCHL from 2003 to 2008 for the Powell River Kings, Williams Lake Timberwolves and Penticton Vees. He won the BCHL top goaltender award in 2007/2008 while playing for the BCHL champion Penticton Vees. After his stellar junior career, Alex earned a scholarship and played four seasons of NCAA division 1 hockey at Colgate University from 2008 to 2012. The 34 year old Evin joined the Spruce Kings after having spent two seasons as the assistant coach for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Prior to that Alex was the assistant coach for two seasons and head coach for one season with Selkirk College of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL).
Brad Tesink – Associate Coach
Brad Tesink is entering his second season with the Spruce Kings, coming Prince George after spending time as a head coach in the Maritime Junior Hockey League with the South Shore Lumberjacks. Hailing from Saint John, New Brunswick, Tesink played four seasons of major junior hockey, and in 2010, Tesink won the Maritime Junior Hockey League championship with the Woodstock Slammers. Tesink began his coaching career in 2016 serving as the assistant coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs U15 AAA. He later became the head coach of the team the following season.
Brandon Manning – Skills and Development Coach
Brandon Manning played 58 games with the Spruce Kings during the 2007-08 season scoring seven goals and 19 assists. The Spruce Kings’ new skills and development coach also played in 255 NHL games, the majority with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Kara Fulawka – Athletic Therapist
Mike & Tara Webber – Strength and Conditioning Coaches
Mike & Tara Webber are in their third season working with the Prince George Spruce Kings. The Webber’s are the owners of the X Conditioning Gym in Prince George, which has been running since 2007.
Kolin Kriitmaa – Certified Mental Performance Consultant
Jim Harder – Equipment Manager
Jim Harder is entering his 9th season with the Prince George Spruce Kings. Harder served his first four years as an Assistant Equipment Manager, but has now taken the reigns the last 2 seasons. Harder’s son, Greg is a Spruce Kings Alumni and has the most games played in Spruce Kings history.

The Prince George Spruce Kings Hockey Club of the British Columbia Hockey League are excited to announce their 2024 Spring Prospects Camps. First, on April 19th – 21st, 2024 at our home arena, Kopar Memorial Arena in Prince George. Then, on June 7th-9th at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford, BC. This camp will allow us to identify your abilities and determine your future potential to be a Spruce Kings player.
These camp are open to 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 birth year players. All players are required to be rep level players or above. All players will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodations. Goaltender applications will be reviewed.
