About Us:
Mercyhurst University is a fully accredited, four-year, Catholic comprehensive institution, founded in Erie, Pa., by the Sisters of Mercy in 1926. The Erie campus, located on a picturesque hillside crowning the city, offers 50 undergraduate majors with 67 concentrations, as well as unique adult programs and six graduate programs.
The Mercyhurst University intercollegiate athletics program reflects an institutional commitment to excellence by offering a wide range of programs for all students.
The University’s intercollegiate athletics program is comprised of 25 varsity sports, with the Lakers fielding teams in 14 women’s sports and 13 men’s sports. Two of the programs compete at the Division I level (men’s and women’s ice hockey) while 22 participate on the Division II stage. Men’s rowing is the only varsity sport not recognized by the NCAA as a championship sport, while Stunt has been recognized by the NCAA as an Emerging Sport.
Mercyhurst also offers a robust club sports program, which are open to all students.
