CHA ACCEPTED INTO CSSHL & UT1HL FOR UPCOMING SEASON
Launched in 2009, the CSSHL’s mission is to be a leader in education-based hockey. To date, 80+ CSSHL alumni have been drafted into the NHL, with 21 selected in the 2022 draft alone. Nearly 500 alumni have moved onto the NCAA/USPORTS, 500+ to the CHL and over 60 have represented their country. CHA will compete in the U17 Eastern division for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Founded in 2018, the United Tier 1 Hockey League (UT1HL) offers a competitive, balanced schedule. The schedule includes weekend home/away games & is highlighted with four showcases designed to provide maximum exposure for its member organizations and their players. CHA will be participating in the U18 division.
CHA will also play games in the North American Prep Hockey League (NAPHL), where we were the U16 National Champions in 2022-23. We will be participating in the U18 division.
Our Story
With a goal of offering their sons more ice time, Champions Hockey was founded in 2007 by Dax MacLean and Stacy Smallman. Both alumni and National Champions with the University of New Brunswick, their small group quickly grew and became sought after by athletes searching for the highest quality training.
Our Evolution
Champions Hockey is now recognized as one of Atlantic Canada’s premier development programs, servicing players from all over the world. In 2012, they partnered with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL and became their head on ice instructors for all fall/winter development. Champions Hockey has become a household brand for many, offering private and semi-private sessions, high intensity skills camps and group development. In partnership with The Atlantic Canadian Sports Institute, Champions Hockey is able to provide training for junior, university, and professional athletes aiming to elevate their game.
OUR SCHEDULE
U17 Male Schedule 2023-24
Our schedule allows our student athletes to stay on top of their academic performance, while focusing on developing their athletic career. In partnership with Fredericton Christian Academy (FCA), our student-athletes have the opportunity to enroll in a two-semester program that allows them to complete all required classes, plus a number of elective courses each year. Although they will have a different schedule than an average student, CHA athletes will integrate with the non-athlete student body.
Our student athletes are on the ice every day. During the week, student athletes take part in structural practices and skill development sessions. The team will work closely with their respective programs’ strength and conditioning coach, as well as various other off ice seminars such as video work, mental training and nutrition. Outlined below is an overview of our academic schedule for CHA student- athletes in Semesters 1 and 2. CHA student-athletes will earn seven credits over the first two semesters.

What league does CHA play in?
CHA plays in the CSSHL in Canada, the UT1HL in the US, as well as additional showcases with the NAPHL in Canada.
What about games?
The majority of games take place on weekends in a showcase format. Programs in each division take turns hosting these Showcase weekends, which see multiple teams in one location playing multiple games. This format cuts down on travel time, as well as school days missed. Teams will also play a small number of exhibition games throughout the season on non-showcase weekends.
What happens after the season?
Although the hockey season may be over, the training doesn’t stop. We offer a 10-Week training program designed for our players that runs from April until June.
This program includes:
- Power skating
- On-ice skill development
- Off-ice skill development
- Fitness testing
- Strength & conditioning
- Speed training
- Agility training
- Mobility training
